and Bob Hess
Robert L. Hess, Ph.D. is retired and living again in California
after a long stint in Northern Virginia. He served as an operations officer
in the U.S. Navy during WWII and again during the conflicts in Korea and Vietnam.
He continues to serve on occasion as an analyst and consultant to the Defense
Department. He has written articles on a wide array of topics including: electronics,
naval tactics, defense policy, church music, Swiss 17th-Century history, and
genealogy. Bob translated the German Church registers published in Lancaster
County Church Records of the 18th Century Volumes 4 & 5 and contributed
recently to the Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage. He has just completed his five
volume series on the 18th century records of the Lutheran Church at Philadelphia
which he translated from the original German.
Bob's wife Rebecca J. Hess, nee Yingling, was born in York County, Pennsylvania and is a known descendant of some thirty-eight 18th century immigrant families of Pennsylvania and Maryland who came from Switzerland, the Palatinate, Wurttemberg, Alsace and other German-speaking lands. A retired X-ray technician, she has accompanied her husband in their research forays both in Europe and America. She is also the person responsible for processing his work for publication.
