There are advantages and disadvantages in using CD-ROMs. Aside from the obvious savings in costs of CDs over books. Most CDs cover a number of books and thousands of pages. Many of these CDs have a single index to all the volumes covered, making it easy to locate the name of an ancestor. Although most do not have searchable text the index usually allows you to like to the pertinent page.
A major criticism of CDs it that they rarely give exhaustive coverage of any particular subject. Most CDs are copied from a collection of books, published years earlier, which may or may not form a complete coverage of any particular subject.
It is sometimes difficult to acquire a thorough description of the coverage of any particular CD. I will attempt to describe the contents of many of the CDs available in the genealogy community.
All the following CDs are available from Colonial Roots.
These CDs require either the Family Tree Maker software or the Family Archive Viewer which are both ompatible with Windows software only.

CD224. Marriage Index: Maryland. 1655-1850. A large portion of these records are marriage licenses issued from 1770s to 1850. Marriages from church records include those of St. Peters Parish, Talbot County; First Methodist Church, Baltimore; and St. Johns Parish, Baltimore. There are very few marriage records before the 1770s. This CD gives excellent coverage of marriage licenses. Marriage licenses are not covered for the counties of Calvert (courthouse fire), and counties formed after 1850 (Garrett, Howard and Wicomico). In most cases the date is the date of the license not the date of marriage.

CD 192. Genealogical
Records: The Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy, 1750-1930.
Contains images of the pages of all six volumes of the Encylopedia of American
Quaker Genealogy originally published by the Genealogical Publishing Company.
This was a major undertaking by William Wade Hinshaw, compiled and re-arranged
by Thomas Worth Marshall and staff, Walter C. Woodward, and others. Information
has been derived from the minutes of most of the monthly meetings. However certain
types of information which would prove of value to researchers was omitted.
This is especially true of complaints made by members. Marshall treated complaints
for most causes other than marriage contrary to Friends' order as having little
historical or genealogical interest and were ignored except when they resulted
in disownment.
